Dr John Mauro FSGT of Penn State University has released a YouTube video expanding information on the low melting temperature, low carbonate raw material LionGlass™.
It compares soda–lime–silica glass with LionGlass including the much lower melting temperatures, higher strength by a factor of 10 or more, and very low CO2 released from the melt. The video includes a graph comparing the two glasses against temperature and gas release. A CelSian laboratory video shows the progress of gas release during batch melting to fining.
The glass is being pitched as a direct competitor to soda–lime glass, the carbon savings from the batch and the 200°C lower melting temperature combined with it's strength offering reduced weight.
