A glass hand bag from Coperni

Coperni Glass Mini Swipe

Coperni's sculptural glass rendition of their signature Mini Swipe Bag is handmade in Saint-Mihiel in north eastern France, an area with a strong glass-blowing tradition. Each one is totally unique and crafted by a master glass-blower with over 15 years experience, without moulds or machines. This intricate process requires great skill and meticulous eye-to-hand coordination, giving rise to a beautiful object d'art made for display. In this case, the handbag is rendered in clear crystal glass and every curve and sinuous line has been considered with the utmost care.

At Paris Fashion Week the company featured the Air Swipe made from a silica aerogel, a nearly-transparent clutch that is composed of 99% air and 1% glass. Developed by Professor Ioannis Michaloudis, a researcher and visual artist who is at the forefront of incorporating aerogel into the fine arts, the Air Swipe is the largest object ever created from this material and it only weighs about 33 g.
