SGT Fellows at the International Congress on Glass 2025John Parker HonFSGT took an active role in ICG technical committee TC23 discussions on education in glass science and engineering. A newly created committee “Associated Member Company Council (AMCC)” led by Krysteline Technologies’ Steve Whettingsteel FSGT discussed “Glass for Women” highlighting the plight of young women facing significant amount of male prejudice in career pathways into the glass industry. On the evening of January 21st, ICG2025 delegates enjoyed a
Bengali classical cultural programme sponsored by Arun Varshneya’s company,
Saxon Glass Technologies. Later in the evening, at the dinner sponsored by AGC of Japan with “Happy Hour”
supported by Stuart Hakes’ company F-I-C (UK) Ltd and Erik Muijsenberg’s
Glass Service Company of Czechia delegates
celebrated the 51st wedding anniversary of the president and his wife,
Darshana (see photo). Professor Varshneya thanked
Dr Akio Koike FSGT (pictured above on the right of the table) for the anniversary celebration and AGC’s large contribution to
the SGT. 
Rob Ireson of Glass Futures
receives congratulatory certificate from session chair Stuart Hakes HonFSGT. Dr Ireson of Glass Futures presented an invited talk: "Carbon capture - An enabler for net-negative glass manufacturing?" during the Sustainable Glass Manufacturing session. Mr Hakes gave the Third N L Varshneya Memorial Lecture on Sustainability in Glass "Electric Forehearths for Energy Reduction and Decarbonisation" during the plenary session on the third day of the conference. Manoj Choudhary FSGT gave a talk in the same plenary session: "Pathways and Challenges to Decarbonizing Industrial Glass Melting." The closing plenary session on Thursday began with Steve Whettingsteel FSGT on "The Decarbonisation Pathway for Used Glass" and was followed by Professor Edgar Zanotto FSGT "Cracking Crystal Nucleation in SCLs and Glasses during the Pandemic."
