Sustainable Melting - Technical Committee

The Substainable Melting - Technical Committee (MTC) of the SGT was formed to help the society disseminate technical knowledge related to all aspects of the glass melting process relevant to glass producers.  The work of the committee covers all aspects of the melting process from batch (raw materials, handling, mixing and melting), through melter design (refractories, heating, cooling, and controls), to operation (heating regimes, operation, and maintenance), and looks at developments, best practices and tests and standards.

The MTC organises the annual Furnace Solutions Conference and its associated Training Day, held in early June every year, where the glass industry can meet and listen to presentations related to their needs.

The MTC have also compiled the Glass Compendium, an invaluable source of information related to practical glass melting.
