A Simple D.C. Method for the Determination of the Electrical Resistance of Glass

A simple apparatus for the measurement of the DC conductivity of glasses at low temperatures is described. In order to make observations at low currents a pH meter is used, a range of measurement of specific resistances from 10⁸ ohm cm to 5×10¹² ohm cm being possible using the instrument in its original form. A modification of the pH meter permits this range to be extended up to a specific resistance of 10¹⁶ ohm cm. Typical results obtained with the apparatus are given.
