Modelling the Thermomechanical Behaviour of Glass Materials
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers hosted a webinar on the thermomechanical behaviour of glass materials, featuring Dr Owen McGann (Glass Technology Services) and Gabriel Hattori (Comsol) as speakers. Gabriel provided an overview of Comsol, a software used for modelling various physics, including heat transfer, and discussed the flexibility of Comsol in defining custom couplings between different physics.
Owen shared his expertise in glass materials and the work GTS has undertaken in research, consultancy and testing. Using the Comsol software to demonstrate the properties of glass, emphasizing that it is an amorphous solid with a random structure and doesn't have a melting point, but rather a glass transition temperature (Tg) where it transitions from an elastic solid to a viscoelastic fluid.
