Ferrybridge Hydrogen is a proposed green hydrogen production facility being developed by SSE Thermal at the site of the former Ferrybridge C Power Station in Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire.
The initial expected 50 MWe facility will deliver hydrogen to industrial users in the locality to support them to decarbonise their operations, helping to secure and grow jobs in the region (Verallia, Stoelzle and Ardagh are only a few miles away in Knottingley).
Ferrybridge Hydrogen will look to play an important role in the UK’s future energy mix as hydrogen-fuelled generation will have a critical role to play in achieving a clean power system by 2030.
Feasibility studies have been completed and design and site investigation works are underway. A planning application is expected to move forward in 2025 ahead of any final investment decision being made.
Our public consultation on our plans is now open until Monday 10 March.
Wind and biofuel are the fuel sources for the electrolysis of water. There's an energy from waste plant on the old generator site as well as planning permission for a battery storage array. Distribution of hydrogen by local pipe or lorry. I am not sure if the glass factories are in range of the proposed local pipeline, initially it seems to just serve the immediate neighbours.
